SPARTA -- It was the best track meet of Brandon VanDriel's career, but he was almost too tired to celebrate.

The Sparta junior won the 100-meter run to tie the area record of 10.4 seconds, and anchored the winning 400 and 800 relay teams that set new school records with times of 44.2 and 1:30.9 respectively in the Division 2 regional at Sparta.

VanDriel was also second in the 200 with a time of 21.6

"This was too much for me, it takes a toll on your body," VanDriel said.

"I wish this was a two-day meet, and then make conference a one-day meet. I finally felt everything in the 200 finals, but it's all right. It was a fabulous day."

VanDriel now shares the area record with Mike Ball (Wyoming Park, 1976) and Mike Burt (East Kentwood, 1995).

VanDriel won the Division 2 state title in the 100 last year as a sophomore in 10.88.
